| WHAT AND WHY?
Background
Manufacturing output is an important
component of the Singapore economy
It makes up
more than 23% of the GDP |
Manufacturing
is a major employer with 18.8% of the workforce |
The supporting
logistics industry is also becoming significant. |
However, Singapore
faces strong competition threats from China
(high-tech manufacturing), and the region
(F&B industry) |

The key question
is, how can Singapore improve the competitiveness
of the manufacturing and logistics sector
in view of all the above challenges? |
Collaborative
supply chain management provides an opportunity
for Singapore-based companies to address the
issues stated above. |
| The eSCM
task force has the charter to drive the transformation
of the manufacturing and logistics sector to become
Asias key Collaborative Manufacturing Services
Hub using eSupply Chain Management. |
However, the use of eSupply Chain
Management is still in its infancy in Singapore
The eSCM assessment programme is
a national initiative to
improve the adoption of eSupply Chain Management in
Singapore
The eSCM Council comprises of major
organisations in Singapore with the common objective
of improving the adoption of eSCM concepts, processes
and technologies in Singapore
This initiative is to help Singapore
companies achieve
world class standards in Supply Chain Management and
E-Business
The objective
of the eSCM programme is to assess the eSCM
capabilities of companies in Singapore |
This programme
aims to assess Singapore companies on 2 dimensions: |
| |
Supply
chain processes enabled through e-business
Supply
chain performance indicators |
An eSCM assessment
indicates the current eSCM capabilities of
the company. It is an independent and transparent
verification tool |
The output
of the assessment identify what companies
need to do to improve their processes and
infrastructure |
It will also
provide an internationally recognised benchmark
to motivate other companies to adopt eSCM
best practices and will act as a catalyst
for companies to improve their eSCM processes
and systems. |
